NEWSLETTER 6 | TERM 1 – 2026

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We have noticed over the past few weeks that many learners are spending more time on their phones and social media than on studying or reading. Reading is an integral part of everyday learning. When a learner struggles to read, it becomes difficult to study effectively and answer questions in tests and examinations. This can ultimately lead to poor academic performance or even failing a subject or grade.

We strongly encourage parents to promote reading at home. Please consider purchasing reading books on topics that interest your child. Developing a habit of reading will greatly benefit their understanding, vocabulary, and overall academic success.

We also appeal to parents to partner with us in guiding our learners. Please speak to your children about discipline, the consequences of poor decision-making, respectful communication, and proper behaviour towards adults and fellow learners. It is important that learners understand the value of respect, responsibility, and selfdiscipline both at school and at home.

Together, we must strive to raise children who become outstanding citizens of South Africa and who excel in all that they do. We can only achieve this by instilling strong values and lifting them up through consistent guidance and support.

BUSES

The bus company transporting our learners to and from school has installed cameras on all buses. This initiative is aimed at improving the safety of both our learners and drivers. We believe this is a positive step forward, and we thank the company for prioritising the wellbeing of everyone involved.

NOTICE TO PARENTS AND GUARDIANS ABOUT TRANSPORT:

Please take note that the school has not appointed or contracted any transportation services other than El Joe Coaches for the transport of our learners.

Any alternative transportation arrangements have been made independently by parents or guardians. As such, Charlton Vos cannot take responsibility for, nor vouch for, the safety, reliability, or compliance of these services.

It remains the responsibility of parents or guardians who choose to use alternative transport providers to ensure that such services fully comply with all rules, regulations, and requirements as set out by the Department of Transport.

We strongly encourage all parents to verify that the transport they make use of is safe, legal, and properly registered.

VALENTINE’S BALL

Our high school learners thoroughly enjoyed their Valentine’s Ball held on Friday evening. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the teachers and parents who contributed to making the event such a memorable and enjoyable occasion.

OWN TRANSPORT LEARNERS

If your child makes use of private transport such as taxis or aftercare services, please ensure that arrangements are made for prompt collection:

  • Monday to Thursday: no later than 14h15
  • Fridays: no later than 13h15

We have had instances where learners are left waiting for extended periods. Please note that:

  • Learners will be required to remain in the designated waiting area until collected.
  • They will not be allowed to roam the school premises after school hours.
  • Only learners involved in supervised extra classes or activities may remain on the premises under teacher supervision.

Learners using private transport are not supervised after 14h15/13h15, and it is essential that they are collected on time. The waiting area is provided solely as a safety measure.

NOTICE TO PARENTS: EXTRA CLASSES AND TUTORING

At Charlton Vos College, our teachers are committed to delivering quality education and are dedicated to their respective subjects. As part of this commitment, we offer additional support through free extra classes at school for certain subjects and grades.

We are aware that there are many individuals and organisations offering extra lessons. However, not all are familiar with the curriculum requirements or the necessary teaching standards, which may not always benefit your child academically.

Should you wish to enrol your child in extra lessons outside of school, we recommend SOMELPSA Tutoring Academy (Contact: 079 148 0897). They offer support in all subjects across all grades, are reliable, knowledgeable about the curriculum, and work in collaboration with the school.

Please note that, at this stage, this is the only external tutoring provider we officially recognise and work with.

We also urge parents to be cautious of individuals offering extra classes purely for financial gain without the appropriate expertise. It is important to ensure that any additional support your child receives contributes positively to their academic growth and helps them reach their full potential.

STUDENT COUNCIL AND JUNIOR LEADER CAMP

The Junior Leaders and High School Student Council will be attending a leadership camp this coming weekend. They will depart on Friday morning, 8h30 and return on Sunday at approximately 11h30.

We trust that this experience will help them develop leadership skills and build strong relationships. Thank you to all parents for your support in making this opportunity possible.

PUBLIC SPEAKING EVENT

Please note that the Public Speaking event has been moved from this Saturday to 28 February. The event will take place in the school hall. This event will start at 8h00 and will be finished approximately 12h30. Parents will be parking inside. Security will be at the gate.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in your child’s education.

Kind regards,
School Management
