Dear Parents / Guardians,
At school, we teach our learners the content of their subjects, and we also guide them in understanding life beyond the classroom — how to behave, what is expected of them, and how to grow into responsible individuals. In this way, the school is an extension of the home.
For many learners, school is a safe haven where they feel loved, supported, and cared for. We strive to make the school environment a pleasant and welcoming place for every child. However, it is important to remember that academics must always come first. Learners need to excel in their studies in order to reach their highest potential and achieve success in life.
There are certain important values and lessons that begin at home and cannot be taught by the school alone. One of these is manners and respect. A child who has not been taught basic manners and respect is a child in need of guidance. While we support learners in many ways, the school cannot take responsibility for lessons that should have been taught from a young age at home.
We therefore ask all parents to work with us in this regard by teaching your child the basic values of life. A heartfelt thank you to the parents who already do this — we see the results of your efforts in your children every day.
TESTS:
All grades are currently busy with tests. We kindly ask parents to assist their children with studying and encourage them to do their best. Please take time to sit with your child, ask questions about their work, and ensure they are fully prepared for the upcoming assessments.
BEHAVIOUR:
Behaviour speaks volumes. Learners are expected to behave appropriately at all times. Learners who display discipline or behaviour problems will face the consequences, as well as the necessary processes and steps that will be taken in line with school policy.
SCHOOL FEES:
Please also take note that school fees for January and February should already be paid. Parents who are still in arrears are kindly requested to make the necessary payments to avoid further steps being taken. As a reminder, school fees are due before or on the 3rd of each month. Even if an account has not been received, payment remains the responsibility of the parent or guardian.
ILL LEARNERS:
If your child is ill, please keep them at home until they are fully recovered. We cannot have learners coming to school unwell and then needing to be collected during the school day. Please note that the school is not permitted to administer any medication. If your child is on chronic or any other medication, it must be given at home before school and again after school. No learner is allowed to bring any medication to school under any circumstances.
DANGEROUS: CELL PHONES
Cell phones can pose serious risks to learners, especially when misused for social media and online activities. Parents are ultimately responsible and accountable for any misuse of a cell phone by their child. Please ensure that you are fully aware of what is on your child’s phone and how it is being used.
NO CELL PHONES OR SMART WATCHES ALLOWED AT SCHOOL!! (See policy in
a previous letter)
COMMUNICATION BETWEEN PARENT AND LEARNER OR TEACHER:
Learners must also understand the seriousness of not informing their parents when they are going to play at a friend’s house, visit someone else after school, or go out over weekends. Please speak to your child about the dangers of such behaviour and make sure they understand the consequences of not communicating their whereabouts.
Thank you to all the parents who are walking hand in hand with us in these teachings. Our aim is for our learners to stand out above the rest of society — they are truly the cream of the crop.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT:
Public transport, including taxis and aftercare transport, is widely used by our learners. It is extremely important that any vehicle transporting your child is roadworthy and compliant with all legal requirements.
Drivers must have the correct and valid licences to transport learners or adults. We have observed that some vehicles currently in use are not permitted to be on the road and are in very poor condition, which raises serious safety concerns.
We kindly ask all parents and guardians to ensure that the transport used by their child—whether private or public—fully complies with road safety regulations and licensing requirements. The safety of our learners remains our highest priority. Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us keep all children safe.
PUBLIC SPEAKING WORKSHOP:
The primary school learners with teacher Rina had their workshop last Saturday here
at school. They learned a lot and are practicing very hard. Thank you to all the
parents that allowed their children to participate. We really appreciate it.
BOTANICAL GARDENS:
The grade 10 Life Science learners visited the Botanical Gardens on Wednesday for a practical assessment they are busy with. They enjoyed it and learned a lot. Thank you to Teacher Francis and Teacher Kefilwe for helping with this important task.
GRADE 7 LEADERSHIP CAMP:
The Grade 7 Leadership Camp will take place this weekend.
Learners will depart from school on Friday at 09:00 and will return on Sunday between 11h30 and 12h00.
This camp is a wonderful opportunity for our learners to grow, develop their leadership skills, and enjoy a meaningful experience with their peers. We are confident that they will gain valuable insights and memories from the weekend.
A special thank you to Teacher Rina and Teacher Kayla for accompanying and supporting the learners during the camp.
NETBALL FOR HIGH SCHOOL:
The netball practice will be starting next week. A letter will be sent out to parents of learners that are interested in joining the netball teams.
DISCIPLINE:
It is concerning to note that some learners are already failing to comply with the school rules and code of conduct. This is particularly disappointing as certain learners and parents received discipline letters last year, clearly warning against continued misconduct at school.
We have already issued discipline letters this term and wish to make it very clear that bad behaviour will not be tolerated. A detention class was introduced and commenced last Friday, and it will be enforced consistently. The school will not allow learners to dictate behaviour standards, nor will we permit unruly conduct in classrooms or on school premises.
At the same time, we would like to sincerely commend the 99% of learners who consistently behave appropriately and uphold the values and rules of the school. You serve as excellent role models to those who are not complying. We encourage you to continue setting a positive example for your peers.
The cooperation of both learners and parents is essential in maintaining a safe, disciplined, and productive learning environment.
SECURITY TEAM AT SCHOOL:
We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere appreciation to our school security team.
Our security staff is truly exceptional. They are vigilant at all times, know our learners and parents well, and consistently place the safety of our school and learners as their top priority. They are always willing to go the extra mile and perform their duties with dedication and professionalism.
Their strict adherence to rules and discipline sets a strong example for everyone and highlights the importance of maintaining a safe and orderly school environment. Because of their commitment, we feel secure and confident each day.
We salute our security team for the outstanding job they do every single day. May God bless you abundantly for your hard work, dedication, and unwavering service.
We hope and trust that you will have a wonderful weekend.
Kind regards,
Mr JS Diedericks
