IMPORTANT LETTER: ISSUED ON TUESDAY 20 FEBRUARY:
Damage of 2 buses after fire – MONDAY NIGHT
School out on Friday 23 February at 11h30 – TEACHERS AWARD – DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
OPEN DAY OF DIRCO:
20 of our kids were invited to attend a programme offered by The Department of International Relations and Co-operation (DIRCO) on the 23rd of February 2018. The bus will be leaving from school at 08h00. The programme starts at 9h00 until 14h30. They will be back and dropped off at Wonderpark Shopping Centre at approximately 16h00. This will give them the opportunity to explore the possibility of a career in the field of international relations. Ms. R. van Vuuren will accompany them for the day.
On the 16th of February we were celebrating Valentine’s day. Learners had formal teaching the first part of the day and thereafter they were busy with their Valentine’s day. It is sometimes necessary to “let your hair down” and enjoy life.
ROCKY FUTURE SHOW:
On Friday the 16th of February 2018 the ROCKY FUTURE SHOW, was here and spoke to the grade 12 learners about career choices and different institutions they can attend to make their dream come true. They presented a whole show and thereafter the learners had the opportunity to visit the different institutions and ask questions. They also received brochures from the institutions.
Thank you Mr. T. Shoko for the arrangements to help our learners to make a success of their futures.
All school fees for March 2018 must be paid on or before the 3rd of March 2018. Make sure that you are using the correct family code when you are doing your payment.
The accounts that are in arrears will be handed over for collection to Prosperitas. Unfortunately we can’t run the school sufficiently if all parents are not paying their monthly school fees promptly. Learner’s that are owing fees will not be able to make use of the free bus transport. These parents need to transport their kids themselves every morning and afternoon.
THANK YOU TO ALL THOSE PARENTS THAT PAY THEIR FEES PROMPTLY. We really appreciate it very much.
The bus transport is a free service the school renders to the learners of Charlton Vos College. When a driver drops the learner off, the school, bus driver and Bus Company will not be taking any responsibility for the learner/s. It is the responsibility of the parent to make sure that the learners arrive home safely. Many times learners go with friends and parents are totally freaked out if they arrive home and learner is not at home, which we can understand. But you as parent need to tell your child to go straight home.
Learners must also know road safety and that is the parents’ responsibility to teach them that. They need to know not to just run across a road when dropped off or waiting for the bus. Your child must know where to get off and where to get up. The driver can’t take that responsibility, because many times parents change drop off points and the child know where to get off. This is not the driver or school’s responsibility to check if learners got off at their own drop off point.
The school and management as well as the driver and bus company, will not take any responsibility after the learner/s were dropped off at the drop off point.
The school and management will not take any responsibility for any learners using own transport or after school is out.
SCHOOL CLOSING DATE FOR TERM 1:
Charlton Vos College will be closing the 20th of March 2018 for term 1. Please inform the own transport of this date.
NEW ABLUTION BLOCK:
We are busy erecting a new ablution block for the grade R learners. We are very excited about it.
The premises are much cleaner this week, but there are still learners that just throw the papers down and not in the dustbin.
If you communicate with the teacher during the day, we do ask that you don’t phone them on their cell phones during school hours. Phone the office and the teacher will phone you back during break time. We do ask that you also respect the teachers’ privacy and not phone or message them later than 16h00 in the afternoons. They also deserve time off, after a busy day at school.
We at Charlton Vos College strive to do the best for each learner here. But it becomes very difficult if parent/s are just assuming that their child is telling the truth when coming home with a story of bullying or punishment or extra home work. Before you find the teacher guilty, ask the teacher about what happened or did anything happen. With years of experience we have found that in most cases the learner is telling a tale or are guilty and are too scared of the parent to tell them the truth. We believe in honesty and therefore we investigate the situation before we find the teacher or learner guilty. We will not let any learner disrupt a class or intimidate teachers or other learners.
Many times parents let other parents intimidate them to believe nonsense stories from the school. Before you send your whats app or SMS to broadcast a problem, be 100% sure it is true. Many times a parent or learner is guilty and that same parent would involve many other parents with their own personal problem. The school will never broadcast personal problems to other parents, we address it with the parties involved. Whats app groups or SMS groups have many negative stories to spread and can become a huge problem for you as individual. If you are not sure, ask the teacher or phone the school.
KEEP OUR PREMISES AND COUNTRY CLEAN:
We have spoken ample times about keeping our premises clean. It is much better, but still there are learners just throwing there juice boxes, chips papers and even bread on the floor, and then there are 2 or 3 dustbins not even 3 meters away from the child.
We have also seen learners from our school and other schools just throwing their papers, cold drink cans or fruit out of the bus or taxi window. This can cause a serious accident. We do ask that you speak to your child about the above mentioned issue. We teach our children to respect and behave, but we still have the handful that are not really listening to us. We are proud of our community and therefore we would like to keep it clean and neat.
TEACHER AWARDS CEREMONY – DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Once again many of our teacher were invited to this ceremony. We are very proud, because once again we are the cream of the crop. Congratulations to all the teachers that will receive an award for excellence.
Because of the ceremony starting at 12h00, the school will be out at 11h30, this coming Friday – 23 February 2018.
