Hope and trust that you had a wonderful week so far? Time is flying and it is already the third week of the school year. There are so many things to do and so little time, but we work hard to achieve all our goals for this term.
We have given important info through in the first letter for this year. Please make sure that you familiarize yourself with that and also of the important rules and regulations of the diary. Hope you have signed the pages in the diary which are extremely important.
SCHOOL HOURS:
All learners must be at school not later than 07h30. The first bell will ring at 07h40 and then all must be in their classes. We start with register period, except on the day they are writing test, then we start with the test period.
Monday to Thursday: 07h40 – 14h00
Friday: 07h40 – 13h00
Believe it or not, but there are still parents bringing their children late to school. We have decided to keep these learners in the waiting area at the main gate until the end of the register period. They come late and disrupt the class. Also make sure you collect your child not later that 14h15 from Monday to Thursday and not later than 13h15 on a Friday. If your child is not going to make use of the school bus then you need to inform the taxi, own transport or after care that they need to obey the times promptly to avoid action. Learners will be outside and we as school will not take any responsibility for any learner after school is out. Gates will be closed at 14h15 and only extra class learners will be on the premises, others will be outside the gates. We WILL NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY LEARNER AFTER SCHOOL IS OUT EVERYDAY.
SCHOOL FEES:
All school fees for February 2025 had to be paid on or before the 3rd of February 2025. Late payments will result in penalties. Learners behind in school fees will not be able to make use of the bus transport and drivers will get a list and those learners must be transported by their parent’s mornings and afternoons.
DISCIPLINE:
We at Charlton Vos adhere to rules and we have a ZERO tolerance attitude when it comes to discipline. It is the responsibility of the parent to instil the importance of rules in the children. We have already phoned some parents of learners not behaving in class or being disrespectful towards other learners and teachers. We will not allow any child to dictate to us what to do. All parents will receive a sms every time the learner gets demerits. Please make sure you speak to your child about the misconduct. We are sending smse because many parents don’t get the letters we send home. So a learner will receive a letter and the parents will receive a sms.
CELL PHONES:
This is one of our biggest concern and headaches. We do understand that some parents need their children to phone them when at home, but they are not allowed to use their cell phone on the school premises/during school hours. If we find them disobeying this rule, the phone will be confiscated and can only be retrieved after 3 months. Cell phones are becoming a huge hazard in our society and many children and adults have been caught in situations that lead to embarrassment or other worse case scenarios. Parents need to check their children’s cell phones on a regular basis to avoid these above-mentioned situations taking place. We as teachers are doing our best to inform them about the negative sides of sending messages or looking at unsafe and harmful images and videos, but at the end it remains the parents’ responsibility to keep your child out of harm’s way. When a learner is found with harmful or pornography items on the phone, such learner can be expelled immediately. This is a bad influence for other learners in the school and we will deal with it in a very serious manner. NO LEARNER MAY USE A CELL PHONE DURING SCHOOL HOURS OR ON THE SCHOOL PREMISES!!

PARENT DAY FOR TERM 1:
We do ask that upon arrival, parents must go directly to the register class or then the subject teacher they would like to see.
Please come on the days that is specific for a grade. Other grades will not be here or they will be busy with extra classes or meetings.

GRADE 12 EXTRA CLASSES:
Extra classes for grade 12 learners already started the weekend before the school re-opened. They will continue with classes as stipulated on the extra class time table they received.
GENERAL HEALTH:
Ensure that your child take vitamins every day. This will boost their immune system to avoid getting ill (flu, diaree, colds or any other illness). Speak to your child and tell them that touching, hugging, sharing food or stationery is not allowed at all.
MEDICINE:
We are not allowed to administer any medicine at school. We will phone parents to come and fetch a child who is ill. If your child is using any medicine, please administer before school and again when he/she arrives at home.
IMPORTANT FOR EACH DAY:
Learners must go to bed early; some learners are so tired that they fall asleep in the class. All learners need to eat breakfast before coming to school. This also helps with concentration if their tummies are full.
COMMUNICATION:
We encourage parents to rather email or phone the school for any queries. If really necessary we will make an appointment with you only after school. Please communicate with the teacher or office, we can’t solve problems if we don’t know about it. If you would like to se a teacher or the principal, please mail the relevant person and make an appointment. All email addresses in previous letter.
Loadshedding has got a huge influence on everything, and that includes the telephone lines. So it is better to send a mail if you don’t get through. The school does have a generator, so we always have electricity but the cell phone towers are off.
If you need any information about a subject, homework or any other grade related issues, please send an email to the relevant HOD. They will communicate it immediately to the relevant teacher or they will answer you asap.
Teachers are not allowed to use their phones during school hours. So please don’t call them. If you need to speak to them, send a message or phone the office: 012 5270614. The office will give the message during break time or after school. If it is urgent, they will call back asap. No teacher will be called out of his/her class during teaching time.
INFORMATION REGARDING OWN TRANSPORT AND BUS TRANSPORT:
If your child is making use of the bus transport, make sure you wait at the drop off point to get your child when they disembark the bus. The driver can’t wait and can’t take any responsibility for your child once they are off the bus. Make sure your child knows exactly where to get off the bus. Also make sure they know to go straight home and not to a friend if it was not arranged. Many times, parents think their child is lost, just to find out after searching high and low that the child is playing at the neighbour or at a friend. This creates unnecessary stress for parents and the school.
HOMEWORK, ASSIGNMENTS, TESTS AND EXAMS:
It is the responsibility of the parent/care taker/after school to make sure that learners are doing their homework and prepare thoroughly for tests and exams. Make sure that your child adheres to all due dates that will be given for each term. We need to make sure learners are in a set routine daily. This routine will help them complete all tasks and prepare for the next day.

PARKING IN FRONT OF SCHOOL:
If you drop off or pick up your child, DON’T PARK IN FRONT of the neighbours’ gates. They have businesses and their clients and themselves are struggling to leave their houses if their gates are blocked by cars. Also, don’t park in the street, make use of the relevant parking areas to park when dropping off or picking up your child. It is frustrated if parents park in the street in front of the school and other cars pile up behind them. We are all in a hurry, so let us be patient and obey the rules.
SCHOOL DIARIES:
All learners did receive a school diary. Make sure you read all the rules and sign the relevant documents in the diary. Learners must have their diaries with them each and every day. In case of an emergency, it is the first book we take to get all the necessary info to contact parents immediately, especially on the bus.
LOST AND FOUND CLOTHES:
It is only the beginning of the year and we have already many items in the lost and found. If your child did loose any shoes, socks, jersey or jacket please come to school to check if it isn’t in the lost and found. We are going to call all learners to go through lost and found.
If the clothing is not collected by the end of February, we will start a second-hand clothing shop. Some items are brand new, and we know that school uniform is expensive. Please speak to your child and tell them to put the stuff in their school bag when they take it off.
GENERAL:
We at CVC always have the best interest of the learner at heart. We do our utmost best to ensure their happiness at school. Their emotional and physical well-being is also very important. We do ask all parents to take our hands and strengthen the bond so that we can help every single learner to reach their goals and to succeed in life.
Always keep in touch with the register teacher to ensure your child is up to date and if he/she is experiencing a problem that we can immediately deal with it.
It is important to monitor your child’s social media. There are many dangers that can have a very bad influence on our children and we need to keep them out of harms way.
