NEWSLETTER 15 | TERM 2 – 2026

Good day to all parents

We trust that you are all well.

We are back at school and working at full pace as we prepare for the upcoming examinations. All learners are expected to ensure that their work is up to date and completed before the exams begin.

Exam timetables will be issued to all learners shortly. Parents are kindly requested to take careful note of these dates and assist in ensuring that their children arethoroughly prepared for each examination.

STATE THEATRE

The Grade 9 learners attended a play at the State Theatre last week. They watched The Lighthouse Keeper’s Wife, which is one of the prescribed books they are studying this year.

Thank you to teachers Sharlotte, Kefilwe, and Bontle for accompanying them on this educational outing.

GRADE 4 – 7 LEARNERS TRIP

The Grade 4 to 7 learners went on an educational outing on 5 May. Each grade thoroughly enjoyed the experience and gained valuable knowledge.

Thank you to all the teachers who made this possible and accompanied the learners.

We truly appreciate your involvement in their learning process.

DETENTION

Please take note that there will be a detention session for high school learners on Friday, 8 May, from 13:15 to 15:15.

If your child has been scheduled for detention, attendance is compulsory. Nonattendance will result in automatic rescheduling for the next session and may lead to further disciplinary action.

Please ensure that your child has transport arranged, as supervision will not be provided after 15:15.

We appreciate your cooperation. Teacher Margret Smit will be in charge of this session.

CHESS COMPETITION

This coming Saturday, our chess learners will once again take part in a competition.

We wish each player the very best—remember to enjoy the experience!

Thank you to Teacher Francis Swart for all the arrangements and for making this opportunity possible.

WINTER UNIFORM

A reminder that all learners must now be dressed in full winter uniform. Please ensure your child is correctly dressed each day. Learners must still obey all school rules every day.

OPEN DAY

Our Open Day will take place on 30 May for Grade R to Grade 9 learners.

Please share this information with friends, family, and your community. It promises to be a wonderful day at Charlton Vos College, with food, coffee, and various stalls, including grade-specific displays.

We look forward to welcoming everyone for an enjoyable and memorable experience.

EDUCATIONAL OUTINGS FOR GRADE R AND 3

Grade R learners will attend a Fire Show at school on Thursday, where they will learn valuable fire safety information.

Grade 3 learners will be attending a Dairy Show and are looking forward to learning more about dairy production.

FOOD DAY – FRIDAY, 8 MAY (GRADE 8 – 12)

The high school learners will enjoy a pizza day as a fun way to end a busy week.

Thank you to everyone involved in making this special.

DISCIPLINE

Discipline starts at home and remains the responsibility of parents. While the school supports and reinforces good behaviour, it is essential that children are taught respect, manners, and appropriate conduct from a young age.

We kindly ask parents to work closely with us in guiding learners to understand the importance of respect towards teachers, peers, and the school environment. Strong values at home create confident, respectful, and successful learners.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in your child’s education.

MATHEMATICS SUBJECT REQUIREMENTS

Parents are kindly requested to take not of the following important requirements regarding Mathematics.

Grade 9:

Learners must obtain a minimum of 45% in Mathematics at the end of the year in order to continue with Mathematics in Grade 10. Learners who do not meet this requirement will unfortunately not be allowed to continue with Mathematics and will be required to take Mathematical Literacy in Grade 10.

Grade 10 & 11:

Learners who do not achieve at least 45% in Mathematics by the end of Term 1 will be required to change to Mathematical Literacy from Term 2. This decision will be taken in the learner’s best academic interest, as the mathematics curriculum becomes increasingly demanding as the year progress.

We strongly encourage parents to monitor their child’s academic progress closely and to ensure that learners prepare thoroughly for tests and complete all assigned work.

Should a learner experience difficulty with Mathematics, they should seek assistance from their teacher as soon as possible.

Please note that this is an academic requirement and school policy, and exceptions will not be made. Parents and learners are therefore urged to take these requirements seriously and at proactively to ensure the necessary standard is achieved.

Kind regards
MANAGEMENT
