Parents and Guardians
As we come to the end of the first term, we would like to thank all parents and learners for their efforts during what has been a very busy and demanding term. Please take note of the following important dates and arrangements for the last week of the term:
20 March: Big Bounce for Grade 4 – 7 learners at school and Spelling Bee for High school after school.
25 March: Carnival Day for Grade R – 3 learners. School will close at 14h00.
This will also be the last day of the term for learners and school buses. The school will close for the holidays on this day.
26 March: Gold Reef City excursion for Grade 8 – 12 learners.
Buses will depart from school at 07h00 and are expected to return at 17h00/17h30. The buses will stop at Wonderpark Shopping Centre and drop learners off that will be using public transport to go home. Then the bus will drop the rest of the learners at school.
27 March: School offices will be open until 12h00 only.
8 April: School re-opens for Term 2.
10 April: Term 1 reports will be issued.
DANGERS FACING OUR CHILDREN
We have become aware of various substances being used by learners in other schools — in some cases by children as young as those in the intermediate phase. Alarmingly, learners are sometimes encouraged by peers or social media trends to experiment and even record themselves while doing so.
These substances can lead to serious health complications and addiction. We urge all parents to speak openly and honestly with their children about the risks and long-term consequences. Early guidance and clear boundaries can make a significant difference.
CELL PHONE POLICY
Despite repeated communication, some learners continue to bring and use cell phones at school.
Cell phones are negatively affecting learners’ concentration, academic performance and behaviour, both at school and at home. Learners are also accessing online content and websites that are not age-appropriate.
For this reason, the school maintains a strict NO CELL PHONE policy. Parents are requested to support the school fully in enforcing this rule. Learners who fail to comply will face the necessary disciplinary consequences.
SCHOOL FEES
Parents are kindly requested to ensure that their school fee accounts are fully up to date before the school offices close on 27 March.
All remaining outstanding accounts will be handed over for collection on this date.
Please check your account and settle any outstanding balances as soon as possible.
To the many parents who consistently pay their fees before or on the 3rd of each month and who remain committed throughout the year — we extend our sincere gratitude. Your reliability enables the school to function effectively and continue providing quality education.
SCHOOL UNIFORM
As Term 2 approaches, colder weather will soon set in.
Please note that from 1 May, all learners are required to wear FULL WINTER UNIFORM every day. Parents are encouraged to use the holiday period to ensure that uniforms still fit properly and that all required items are available.
LEARNER BEHAVIOUR AND PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITY
The school is experiencing growing concerns regarding learner behaviour both in school and in the wider community. Many schools are currently facing similar challenges with the behaviour and choices of our youth.
While the school will always guide and discipline where necessary, character development begins at home. Parents are encouraged to remain actively involved in their children’s lives — to know their friends, understand their challenges and address behavioural concerns early. Support, supervision and consistent discipline at home play a vital role in helping learners make responsible choices.
When parents and the school work together with a shared commitment to strong values and accountability, learners are far more likely to succeed academically and socially. However, where there is a lack of cooperation or continued disregard for school rules, further disciplinary action will be unavoidable.
Detention Notice – High School
Please take note that there will be a detention session for High School learners on Friday, 20 March, from 13:15 to 15:15.
If your child has been scheduled for detention, attendance is compulsory. Nonattendance will result in automatic rescheduling for the next detention session and may lead to further disciplinary action.
Parents are requested to make transport arrangements for their child after detention, as supervision will not be provided after 15:15. Learners may also not wait at the security area after detention.
We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring learners attend their scheduled detention sessions.
HOLIDAY SAFETY
As the holiday approaches, we strongly urge parents to prioritise their children’s safety and supervision.
Please ensure that your child does not go anywhere without your knowledge and permission. Learners should not be allowed to spend long periods unsupervised with friends or to “hang around” in malls and other public places.
Children and teenagers still require clear boundaries and responsible adult guidance.
Consistent supervision helps prevent them from becoming involved in unsafe situations, negative peer pressure or behaviour that may place them at risk.
Your involvement and vigilance during the holiday period can make a significant difference in keeping your child safe and out of trouble.
FINAL WORD
Our children’s future depends on the decisions we make today — as a school and as parents. We cannot lower standards or ignore warning signs when it comes to discipline, academic focus and personal responsibility.
We therefore ask every parent to stand firmly with the school in maintaining structure, respect and accountability. When learners see that home and school are united, they understand that expectations are non-negotiable and that their success truly matters to the adults guiding them.
Together, we can build strong, responsible and resilient young people who are prepared not only for the next term, but for life beyond school.
