NEWSLETTER 1 | TERM 1 – 2023

Good day

Welcome back after a well-deserved holiday.  We hope and trust that you also had a wonderful time with your family.  We thank God for keeping us safe and for all the blessings He bestowed on us.

We also welcome the new teaching staff here at Charlton Vos.  We know that you will enjoy teaching here at Charlton Vos where we have the cream of the crop.

School started with no problems.  Thank you to all parents for trusting us with your child during this academic year.  All learners were in classes on the first day and we started with work already on the 2nd day of school.

GRADE 8 DAYS:

We had 2 days where we have welcomed the grade 8 learners to the high school.  They did team work and bonding.  The grade 8 learners enjoyed it very much.  We would like to thank the parents of the grade 8 learners for allowing them to join in these 2 days activities.  Thank you to the grade 8 & 9 teachers with their HOD who arranged the days and spent it with the learners.

GRADE 12 EXTRA CLASSES:

Extra classes for grade 12 learners already started the weekend before the school re-opened.  They will continue with classes as stipulated on the extra class time table they received.

    Fridays:  7h40 – 13h00
  • School starts at 7h45, but all must be in the register class by 7h40.

  • We don’t take any responsibility for any learner after leaving the premises.
  • Make sure your child is at school on time and that you pick up your child directly after school is out, if they don’t make use of the bus.

There are many with two and one distinctions.

We are very proud of you all.

Thank you to all the teachers for their hard work and effort to help our learners reach their goals.

LATE COMING:

Late comers will be kept in the waiting area until the end of the first period.  Then they can go to class.  We don’t want to disturb learners while busy with a lesson.  Make sure you drop your child at school not later than 7h30.

TEXTBOOKS:

All learners grade 4 – 12 must have the correct books for every subject.  We know that some books are out of stock or on back order.  We will give time to get the books until end of January 2023.

Make sure that your child has all the books for the day in their bag before they leave for school.  It is best to pack according to the time table the evening before.

GENERAL HEALTH:

Ensure that your child take vitamins every day.  This will boost their immune system to avoid getting ill (flu, diaree, colds or any other illness).  Speak to your child and tell them that touching, hugging, sharing food or stationery is not allowed at all.

MEDICINE:

We are not allowed to administer any medicine at school.  We will phone parents to come and fetch a child who is ill.  Such learner will be in the ventilated waiting area at the main gate or in the office.  If your child is using any medicine, please administer before school and again when he/she arrives at home.

IMPORTANT FOR EACH DAY:

Learners must go to bed early, some learners are so tired that they fall asleep in the class.  All learners need to eat breakfast before coming to school.  This also helps with concentration if their tummies are full.

COMMUNICATION:

We encourage parents to rather email or phone the school for any queries.  If really necessary we will make an appointment with you only after school.  Please communicate with the teacher or office, we can’t solve problems if we don’t know about it. If you would like to see a teacher or the principal, please mail the relevant person and make an appointment.

Loadshedding has got a huge influence on everything, and that includes the telephone lines.  So it is better to send a mail if you don’t get through.

HOMEWORK, ASSIGNMENTS, TESTS & EXAMS:

It is the responsibility of the parent / care taker / after school to make sure that learners are doing their homework and prepare thoroughly for tests and exams.  Make sure that your child adheres to all due dates that will be given for each term.  We need to make sure learners are in a set routine daily.  This routine will help them complete all tasks and prepare for the next day.

Always keep in touch with the register teacher to ensure your child is up to date and if he/she is experiencing a problem that we can immediately deal with it.

May God bless all our staff, parents and learners during this new year.
