NEWSLETTER 24 | TERM 3 – 2017

Good day

SUMMER UNIFORM AND PT UNIFORM:

In previous letters we have addressed this issue thoroughly.    We do ask that you make sure that your child has the correct summer uniform.  Silver Cross is ready for you if you would like to purchase new summer uniform for your child.  We will have regular inspections to warn the learners with wrong clothing.  BUT it stays the responsibility of the parent to make sure that your child has the correct uniform.  BOYS:  NO NARROWED PANTS OR ANY OTHER PANTS EXCEPT THOSE FROM Silver Cross will be allowed at school. Silver Cross is selling the slim line range if you would like to buy it.   ALL LEARNERS must buy only from Silver Cross all uniform items, then your child will not have the wrong clothes.  FOR PT, learners must wear the black track suit pants ONLY available from Silver Cross.  Learners wearing the wrong PT uniform will be send to the office, and the parents will be phoned to bring the correct clothes or fetch the learner from school.  This is a very serious matter and it seems that our learners are not as neat as we expect them to be.  PT uniform is – the school PT shirt (available at Silver Cross) with the Black track suit pants (only available at Silver Cross), white sport socks (available at Silver Cross) and tekkies (white, black or red). NO OTHER PT CLOTHES MAY BE WORN.

SCHOOL FEES:

Make sure that your school fees are up to date and that your re-registration fee is paid for 2018.  We only have limited space available for 2018.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THOSE WHO’S SCHOOL FEES ARE NOT UP TO DATE UNTIL END OF SEPTEMBER 2017

You did receive a letter on Wednesday, 6th of September 2017, where we plead with you to make sure that your fees are up to date.  Some parents ignore all the correspondence and urgent requests.  A school can’t function properly if we don’t get the school fees in on a monthly basis.  We take education seriously and our teachers work hard to make sure that each learner reaches his/her full potential.  We also would like to keep our security which includes the safety of your child and discipline to the highest level.  Therefore we need the fees to be able to run the school successfully.

Those accounts that are in arrears must make sure to read the letter that you received yesterday to

know what the steps will be.  We will be taking steps so that we can keep on doing what we are doing here for all that’s fees are up to date.

LATE COMING AT SCHOOL:

We have addressed this issue many times before, BUT we still experience the same problem.  Learners that are very late for school every morning.  Some are dropped by their parents after school began and others by taxi.  We said that these learners will not be able to go to class until the bell rang for the next period.  They disturb the teacher and other learners when entering the class late.

We do ask that you make sure your child is on time every day.  School starts at 7h45 every day.  Make sure that your child is here at 7h30 then it is ample time to go to class or hand in projects before school start.

SCHOOL CLOSING DATE FOR TERM 3/2017:

We have mentioned in the previous letter that the school will be closing on the 28th of September 2017.  But it was brought under our attention and also mentioned on the news that there will be a country wide strike that COSATU is arranging that will be affecting all sectors of business etc.  For us as school it will have a huge impact on the transport of the learners, taking in consideration that parents are working and some can’t transport their children themselves on this day.

Therefore we decided to wait and see if this will be going through on the 27th of September.  If so our school will be closing on the 22nd of September the previous Friday.  Reason will be that Monday is a school holiday, Wednesday will be the strike and school will be closing on the 28th of September.

WE WILL NOTIFY YOU AS SOON AS WE HAVE CLARIFICATION ON THE MATTER.  We rely on other sources to help us, seeing that we don’t always know if there will be a strike or not.

CELLPHONES:

We just want to bring this urgent matter again under your attention.  We understand that some parents want their learners to have contact with them when getting off the bus.  But as you know learners are not allowed to have their cell phone switched on during school hours.  Learners that are not obeying the rules regarding cell phones will have to deal with the consequences.  Such phone will be confiscated and learner can only get it back after 3 months.  We are strict about this and will remain strict about this, so we do ask that you speak to your child about this situation and make sure they understand it clearly.  No learner will be allowed to use their cell phone or even have it switched on at any stage.  For emergency calls they can go to their class teacher or the office and we will immediately call the parent/s.

COLLECTING OF LEARNERS ON A FRIDAY:

We are experiencing problems with learners that are collected from school earlier than 13h00 on a Friday afternoon.  They are missing work or homework and some learners still need to do assessments that they don’t do.  It is also a disturbance for the teachers when we constantly call learners out of the class.

We will in future not call any learner before 13h00 out of the class.  Please make the necessary arrangements in time.

Yours sincerely,

Mr. JS Diedericks
